James Senegal and I, Senorah Sam, would like to take this time to thank everyone who supported us by either a contribution or attending the Zydecodance fundraiser at the Crystal Rose on April 23, 2006. Our plan, if you don’t know this already is to continue to fundraise to help the Byrd and Babineaux families impacted by Hurricane Katrina get back on their feet. The Byrd and Babineaux families lost everything. It is our mission to help them along as much as we can by holding Zydecodance fundraisers periodically and send them half of our profits. Our contribution from the fundraiser is $451.00. In addition to those funds from the Zydecodance fundraiser additional funds in the amount of 200.00 has been collected. That makes our contribution totaling $651.00. Whenever Jimmy and I give dances it will be for that purpose to help those in need and that is the cause we stand by. Contributing monetarily to help others by way of organizations, individuals or institutions is a positive gesture on anyone’s part. And with that being said, Jimmy and I, have chosen to help monetarily these families from New Orleans and other dedicated and caring institutions that are on a mission to help people. We know the money collected will most assuredly get to those people in need without all the red tape.
We are planning another dance in the near future and look for the attendance to be even better than the last. I hope the word will get around that we are dedicated to our cause and at the same time we will always do our best to provide the Zydeco enthusiast a night to remember all in the spirit of caring for those less fortunate. A small donation is very little to ask when others need our help. I know for one that I would hate to be in the position they’re in today. Hurricane Katrina changed the course of everyone’s history not just the one’s that were hit directly. And we know living in California that a bad earthquake could just as well put us in that same condition. However, we are thankful that we are still in the position to share when our neighbors or families are in need. Once again thank you for your kind donation. See you at the next Zydecodance fundraiser.

In the history of popular and vernacular music it is usually hard to pinpoint the genesis of a new genre or style on one particular individual. But in the case of Louisiana's Afro-American Zydeco music we actually know who invented it, established it, perfected it, and made it world famous! His name was Clifton Chenier (1925 -1987).
